John Jaques Staunton Tournament Design Chess Set with 3.5′ King - John Jaques invented the now industry standard Staunton design of Chess pieces in 1847 and have continued to enhance the design since the 1890s. The Staunton has now become the industry standard for chess sets ever since.
The 1890’s production was widely used in Chess tournaments at the time and the modern Jaques equivalent continues to be used in the majority of todays tournaments. Jaques commemorate that fact by producing a high quality replica of this groundbreaking set in 2 sizes (3.5 & 4 inch King, 90 & 100mm). A limited edition of 500 sets of each size have been produced.
The Staunton 3.5′ Tournament set is the leading tournament chess set. The pieces are hand turned boxwood weighted pieces with woollen baize bases and it is presented in a beautiful hand-made Mahogany locking case.
Dimensions:
The King is 3.5′ in height and all of the other pieces descend downward from him.
The Staunton Tournament Design Chess Set should be used with an 18′ board or bigger.
