Armagnac Brandy is produced in the remote country region of Gascony on soils of chalk in the north, and sandstone in the south of the district. Armagnac, shares with Cognac also in Western France, the reputation as being the finest brandy produced in the world.The Tenareze production area is located in the central district of the appellation. Here the vines grow in soil which is more clayey and chalky than the rest of the region. In this district the principal grape varieties are Colombard, Ugni Blanc and Folle Blanche. These single vintage Armagnac’s which are entirely from grapes harvested in the one particular year have become not only some of the most refined examples of fine after dinner drinks sought after by connoisseurs, but are also most valuable as collectors items.
